Last year, I graduated from the University of Leeds with an English Literature and Language degree.
And honestly? It was tough! The endless reading, writing and constant studying… I have to admit that there were moments when I wanted to give up.
But after three long years of late-night study sessions, working as hard as I possibly could, and the buzz of university life, I DID IT! Me!!
And then I promptly packed up my student life and made my way back home to Nottingham – ready to start my ‘adult’ life. I was really looking forward to returning to my comfort city – spending time with my family and friends and just feeling at home again.
But as soon as you graduate, the pressure starts. Everyone talks about the next big thing – new jobs, new cities, new beginnings – so I quickly sought out what I thought was the ‘best role’ I could following on from my degree and actually landed a job as a journalist for a local publication.
I couldn’t believe it. I’d heard how difficult it was for graduates to find something, and this felt like my big break. I mean, writing was something I had always enjoyed and felt confident doing… so what could go wrong…?
Unfortunately, quite a lot.
I soon found that I had entered a rather toxic, unprofessional environment, that was actually harming my mental health, It definitely wasn’t something I wanted to spend my days.
So, after six months, I made the decision to put myself first, and with the support of my family – I walked away.
It was a scary time. I had no plan and no clear direction of where I was going next, but I stand by my decision.
Instead, I took the time to think about what I really wanted to do. What I was passionate about? What kind of life did I want to build? Who did I want to be?
And, suddenly, the answer became clear.
During university, I not only struggled with the workload, but also went through a very rough patch with both my physical and mental health.
I hit rock bottom basically.
But there was one thing that saved me. I fell in love with health, fitness, training, nutrition, and all things in between.
I not only lost weight and improved my physical health, but also became a happily, stronger, more confident person – and that transformation is something that I will always be so proud of, and consider one of my greatest achievements.
And then I thought… how amazing would it be to help someone else feel that way too?
How amazing would it be to work with different people and help them achieve their own goals? I could make people feel the same way I did!
That’s when I knew… Even though it has nothing to do with my degree, this is the path I must follow.
So… I am SO excited to say that I am working part-time at an amazing Pilates Studio, while studying to become a personal trainer and fitness coach 😊
And it feels so right.
Don’t get me wrong – I still love writing. That’s why I’ve built this blog to share about all the things that inspire and interest me… A space to share what I’m learning and loving. And hopefully it will be helpful for those of you I work with in the future, or who have similar passions and interests to me.
Here, you can expect a mix of:
- Honest chats about fitness, motivation, and balance
- Food finds and recipes that I love
- Different things that I learn about and get up to
- And so much more…
So, here’s to finding your passion, stepping into something new, and becoming the version of yourself that shines brightest.
Let’s do this✨
