It may only be early February, but I’ve already been fortunate enough to visit the Ivy – for both breakfast and dinner – this year… and I am happy to report that both experiences were delicious.
From travelling to the relatively new Nottingham branch to explore their breakfast offerings, to then celebrating my birthday dinner at the original Market Grill in Covent Garden – I must say that all the dishes have been very well received.
A strong start to the year, to say the least.

Breakfast at The Ivy, Nottingham🍳
At the beginning of January, we paid a visit to the newest Midlands establishment ot sample their infamous breakfast menu as an early birthday treat for Mum.
From the moment we stepped inside, we were immediately impressed with the classic décor, spacious layout, and beautifully demure atmosphere. There was an undeniable sense of grandeur – elegant without feeling intimidating, and perfectly suited to a leisurely, celebratory breakfast.
The service was equally as impressive. A rightfully rich flat white arrived promptly and the staff were very attentive and knowledgeable – giving helpful order recommendations when needed.
I opted for the ‘Avocado and Roasted Chestnut on Toast’ dish which was fresh and full of flavour. I also added some smoked salmon on the side – not only for an extra protein boost… but because it also paired with it so well. My fave!
Mum and Mike had the ‘Full English’ and ‘Vegetarian Full English’ for their brekkie, and I definitely didn’t hear a single complaint from either of them. Bonus – Mum had the option of Gluten Free bread!👏🏼
We thought that it couldn’t get any better… until a (gluten free) chocolate dessert was then also brought out especially for Mum. It was so yummy, thoughtful, special and made the whole experience – nothing short of excellent.
Bravo, The Ivy, Nottingham. Bravo.

Dinner at The Ivy: Market Grill, Covent Garden🎂
Last weekend marked my birthday on the 2nd February – and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with dinner at the Ivy. Especially with their £19.17 two-course set menu. And, in London no less!
As part of my amazing birthday present, Mum and I went down to the capital to see Magic Mike Live (read more here), which made this the perfect opportunity for another Ivy visit really.
I must say – our first impressions were a bit… well… overwhelming. Tables seemed to be placed right next to each other in every direction we looked, and the waiters were weaving around them very quickly – which all felt a little hectic.
The service did struggle… we had to ask to place our order eventually, and plates were not cleared away very promptly – so when the next course did finally come, we had to almost exchange dishes with the waiters…
That said, I must say that the food was a winner regardless.
I started with a zesty Italian mocktail while we nibbled on the ‘Salted Sourdough’ and Zucchini Fries’ which our table shared. And honestly… does anything beat a good, old-fashioned bread and butter? And the Ivy’s version has nailed theirs – OUTSTANDING.
For my starter, I had the ‘Chicken Satay Skewers’ followed by the ‘Fillet of Sea Bream’ for my main. Fresh, balanced and beautifully cooked and presented – every dish delivered, regardless of the the earlier hiccups!

Full doesn’t quite cover it.😂 The food was incredible – and for only £19.17? The perfect birthday treat!
Overall, I believe my whole family would 100% recommend the food menu – but, would of warning, I would recommend being mindful of the location you go to, as in our experience some of the smaller establishments can feel slightly busy and take away from the experience a little during busy periods.
The food, however, does truly speak for itself✨
