One week on from its highly anticipated cinema release, here are my spoiler-free thoughts on the new Wicked: For Good movie.
I’ve seen a real mixed bag of reviews in the media this week, but honestly? I really enjoyed it.
Yes, it’s slightly darker in tone than the first film, and yes, it leans less on the original stage musical songs — but I was absolutely spellbound from start to finish.
It had all the magic, drama and wonder that make musicals so unique and special… and in general, was really wicked!
I watched the first movie back in Leeds when I was at uni, so seeing this one at home felt like such a full-circle moment. From Elphie and Glinda navigating school in the first film to facing adulthood in this one, there were so many parallels that hit surprisingly close to home.
I mean… of course I can’t fly on a broom, but the way life shifts from childhood to adulthood? Terrifyingly accurate.
I really was dancing through life when I was younger — carefree, unbothered, floating through the world without much responsibility. Now? Adulthood brings uncertainty, responsibility, and that general “what now?” feeling that comes with leaving education and losing the structure you once relied so heavily on.
We suddenly have to make decisions that come with real consequences and—dreaded as it may be—step into life as actual grown-ups.
I know… being a graduate isn’t all celebrations and champagne moments 😂
Cynthia portrayed that transition so beautifully, capturing a young woman carving out her own path in the world. And honestly, can we talk about her vocals?! She was phenomenal.
In fact, the entire cast were outstanding. Their collective talent across acting, dancing, and singing brought Oz to life with such conviction. They didn’t just tell the story — they immersed us in it, entertaining from start to finish.
A real highlight for me was, of course, Ariana and Cynthia’s rendition of For Good — it genuinely brought a tear to my eye. We all have that one person who comes to mind when we hear those lyrics, and their harmonies captured that sentiment so perfectly. It was everything.
The vibrant colours, striking architecture, and stunning costumes all enriched the story beautifully — and I have to say, we could all be heard giggling at the line, “Use your hands.”

This wasn’t just a movie; it was an experience. One I’m genuinely grateful to have shared at home with the people I naturally connect to the sentiment of its themes.
And now that I’ve seen it, I can confidently say: we’ve truly been changed. For good.
If you’re debating whether to go and see Wicked: For Good, take this as your sign: it’s worth it. Let the big screen, the music, and the magic sweep you away.
